The Bachelor program International Business and Management Studies (IBMS) at Webster Leiden received a Special Quality Distinction this month for its internationalization activities from the Dutch-Flemish Accreditation Organization (NVAO). The special recognition of the program, which allows students to earn both an American and a Dutch bachelor diploma, came after a separate, voluntary assessment procedure linked with the recent re-accreditation of the IBMS. After this process, the IBMS was officially re-accredited for another 6 years (until 2020).
Six subcategories were singled out as “excellent”, namely: the shared vision on internationalization, the intended learning outcomes, the faculty composition, the international experience and competence of faculty, the student group composition, and the services provided to students. This resulted in four overall scores of “good” (vision, learning outcomes, teaching and learning, and staff), and one overall score of excellent (students).
The Special Quality Feature Internationalization is awarded to programs with a high ambition-level regarding internationalization. The NVAO report states
“Webster University’s vision is built on a foundation of excellence in teaching and enhanced by an international perspective that fosters dialogue, respect, and understanding across boundaries and between peoples. The institution is committed to offering its students a distinct personal experience and building the resources to achieve this vision.
Stakeholders within and outside the program (program management, lecturers, students, representatives from companies, quality management, and people working in support functions) clearly share the spirit of internationality. Inter nationality in teaching and study is in fact a central component of the program design. The program objectives and strategy are geared to explicitly ensuring internationality in teaching as well as in graduate employ-ability.”
The achievement of this special NVAO distinction fits the ambition levels of Webster Leiden. Recently new quality assurance processes have been put in place to emphasize our research capacity and scientific orientation as well as our practice-orientation. The achievement of this special quality distinction is perfectly in line with this ambition, as well as truly representative of Webster’s core values and mission.
